Torrential rains in the Konkan region triggered a major landslide in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra on Tuesday morning. The landslide delayed trains and caused major inconvenience to scores of commuters who were heading to Konkan for the upcoming Ganesh festival. Public Relations Manager of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited Baban Ghatge told PTI that a landslide near Pomendi in Ratnagiri district has resulted in the delay of several trains on the route.
The Konkan region is witnessing incessant rains for the past three days which has resulted in the collapse of the protection wall, built recently.
Konkan Railway Corporation's public relations manager Baban Ghatge told PTI that work to clear the landslide has begun. "We are yet to know when the train traffic would resume," he said
The death toll in the train derailment in Maharashtra's Raigad district has gone up to 21 even as the traffic on the affected stretch was restored on Monday morning
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were roped in to rescue hundreds of stranded people, they said.
